Xbox Museum

Creating an interactive microverse & timeline celebrating over 20 years of Xbox history.

To celebrate Xbox's 20th anniversary, we created an immersive microverse featuring six 3D environments, and an interactive timeline for every console created.

Users can explore together with realtime avatars, learn about the history of Xbox and generate their own personal museum using Microsoft account data.

Timeline

In order to assure this historical experience was accesible to all, we created a linear companion timeline, that also moves with you as you explore the virtual space with your avatar.

Process

Before we dove into the creative execution, first we needed to find and collect all of the content that would live within the experience. This was a lengthy and detailed process of sifting through news and facts that we felt would be compelling or interesting to our audience.

We would regularly meet with the Xbox client to share our findings and collaborate on exactly which pieces of content we wanted to include.

Floor Plans

Once we had full content sign-off, we began to lay out the floorplans. This was crucial as we needed to know exactly where each piece of content should be placed, as their placement is in direct alignment with when they occured in the actual timeline.

This was also extremely helpful for our 3D artists that would position the screens per the floorplans, and left little room for errors.
